The Hebrew National food company and RCA team up for this very enjoyable collection of classic Jewish sides recorded between 1952-1969. From Broadway, there's, of course, a few numbers from +Fiddler on the Roof, including Zero Mostel's take on "Tradition" and Perry Como's version of "Sunrise, Sunset." Jerry Herman's musical romance about two middle-aged Americans in Israel, +Milk and Honey, also gets a few turns here, including "Independence Day Hora" and "Shalom." And from the world of film, we have some songs featured in French director Claude Berri's 1969 comedy of manners, Marry Me, Marry Me!, which chronicles a "nice" Jewish wedding via such standards as "Mazeltov" and "My Yiddishe Momme." On top of all this, the disc also features fine performances by the Andrew Sisters, the Weavers, Leo Fuchs, and the Barry Sisters. Whether a habituate of the synagogue or not, Hebrew National Kosher Classics will certainly please fans of stage and screen music. | |||||||||||||
